Teresa
Butta
Teresa Butta is a native Marylander. While
growing up in Glen Burnie as a horse crazy kid, she had the good
fortune to be able to keep her ponies in her backyard and was taught
the basics of horse care through the local 4-H and Pony Club. Her
initial experiences in all the riding disciplines provided her with
a well-rounded education, but she was eventually drawn into the
world of dressage. Teresa knew at an early age that horses would
be her life, but the road to that life has not always been an easy
one. Working different jobs (sometimes two at a time) to support
her dream has made her appreciate the choice she made even more.
Teresa has trained and continues to train under the top dressage
riders/trainers residing in the United States. She is currently
training with Scott Hassler, with whom she has been working since
April 2005 when she was chosen to attend the first Young Horse Trainers
Symposium. For many years, Teresa has been training with Uwe Steiner
and considers him her first real mentor. She also trained and worked
for both Cesar Parra and Felicitas von Neumann-Cosel. She was also
a rider for Linda Zang. Teresa has also had the opportunity to ride
with a long list of other trainers, including: Klaus Balkenhol,
Gerhard Politz, Siegfried Peilicke, Michael Klimke, Reinhart Nelson,
Steffen Peters, and Dr. Ulf Müller.
Teresa came onto the national and international dressage scene
in 2006 after winning the USEF/Markel 5-Year-Old Young Horse Eastern
Selection Trial in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her Dutch gelding,
Unitas. She and Unitas were one of two horse and rider combinations
selected to represent the United States in the 2006 World Championships
for 5-Year-Old Young Horses in Verden, Germany. At Dressage at Devon
in 2006, Teresa found herself in the spotlight once again aboard
Dorie Forte’s Oldenburg gelding, Froelich, where she won the 4-Year-Old
USEF Championship for American-bred horses. Teresa also had a very
successful 2006 on her other up and coming dressage partner, Bacardi,
and finished the year by winning the BLM 3rd Level Championship
at Lexington, Virginia. In 2007 at the USEF/Markel Young Horse Eastern
Selection Trials in Raleigh, North Carolina, Teresa and Unitas placed
third in 6-Year-Old Young Horse Division and sixth on Froelich in
the 5-Year-Old Young Horse Division.
Teresa will be accepting new clients for full training and trailer-in
lessons at our new facility. Please contact
